Edit (Jan. 2022): This video was not meant to report all the technical problems and challenges we were faced with. It was actually just made for fun. If you don`t like the music, then feel free to play your own tuba or nose-flute while watching... ;) As its written in the description, a detailed trouble-shoot report is available (in german). Not a single request came in during the years. Furthermore all the replacement parts are listed in the discription as well. So, take it calmly! Yet I gonna say a few words about: We purchased the RCX400 second hand. It was declared as "defect". Nothing worked when powered ON. first we had to replace the power supply and handcontroller. Then the big problems occured: RCX400 was still dead. We have found a couple of broken wires in the fork-mount. After connecting them, we realised, the maincontrollboard might have not survived. MEADE support was a disaster! It was hard to find but we bought a new maincontrollboard from someone who deforked his RCX400 16". When we installed it, we had a first sign of life and some of the routines went down well. But we were faced with new problems: Focus motors did not work. precise: the optical sensor for focusmotors were defective and blocked the motors. We purchased the "focus and collimation kit by Charlie Trump". This solved the problem (Thanks to Charlie - he did an amazing job on this kit). By now, the RCX400 is working for visual observation. From time to time, alignment procedure fails because its not detecting the home-sensor. Usualy, power-cycling the RCX solves the problem. Thats the story so far. At this stage, we think about a complete new control unit for the RCX400, replacing motors and encoders and design a custom-made wedge for equatorial mount. A video with shitty music will follow ;) after 15 months of troubleshooting, we are finally there. LEARN MORE: 🤍 INTRODUCING THE LX65 Meade’s Founder, John Diebel was a visionary who was determined to provide amateur astronomers with quality products at a reasonable price and great consumer experience. At Meade, we believe the universe should be accessible at a moment’s notice, and the new LX65 Series combines advanced features and premium optics in an easy-to-use telescope system. SINGLE FORK ARM MOUNT The LX65 features a newly designed single arm mount with Meade’s AudioStar® Hand controller. This new mount is compact, yet sturdy, providing a great combination of portability and performance. Additionally, the LX65 has the ability to hold two optical tubes, making your experience twice as enjoyable! With its quick and portable setup, you’re ready to start observing in minutes. The LX65 system breaks down into 3 compact pieces and does not require any tools, making it a breeze to transport to your favorite dark sky location! This sturdy mount uses AudioStar®, a database containing over 30,000 objects for you to observe! With a push of a button, let the AudioStar® Astronomer Inside take you in a guided tour of tonight’s best objects in the sky! With its built-in speaker, you will be able to learn so much about the objects you’re viewing, it’s like having an astronomer there with you! Aligning your telescope is simple and straightforward, too. With a simple 2-star alignment procedure, you will be observing the sky in minutes. AudioStar® will find two bright objects and once they are centered in your eyepiece, simply and press ALIGN and you’re ready to go! This versatile scope features two dovetail receivers that allows you to use two optical tubes at once. Attach up to a 7lb OTA on the secondary saddle for a chance to observe your objects both in wide field or close up. This added versatility makes the LX65 great for community outreach or sharing the night sky with others and will be sure to impress anyone with its technology and optics. PREMIUM OPTICS The LX65 is available in 4 different models, a 5” and 6” Maksutov-Cassegrain, and a 6” and 8” Advanced Coma-Free (ACF™) optical system. These optical tubes feature large apertures coupled with Meade’s Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTC™), giving you the ultimate in premium optics. The LX65 is an ideal high-resolution visual observing instrument, but is also fully qualified for the more advanced areas of astronomy, including planetary astrophotography. Observe Saturn’s rings, the surface of the Moon, and even the cloud bands on Jupiter in great detail. Want to see deep-sky objects? Head to your favorite dark-sky location and you’ll see the Galaxies, star clusters, and more! For the truly discerning astronomer who will not be satisfied with anything but the very best, the ACF™ takes all of the features of traditional telescope models and then ups the ante. With its technologically superior optical design, ACF™ gives a flatter, coma-free field of view free of diffraction spikes and with pinpoint images all the way to the edge of the field, rivaling Ritchey-Chrétien performance at a fraction of the cost. ACF™ is the perfect solution for the serious astro-imager or visual astronomer looking for observatory-class optics. Combining a sophisticated level of performance, the LX65 Series gives quality features and Meade’s legendary optics with a price tag designed to work for most budgets. Whether you’re new to astronomy or an experienced pro, it’s a great choice for your first serious telescope, offering exceptional features for a great price!
This telescope is almost identical to the Meade LX90 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope I reviewed previously but this telescope is sold optical tube only whereas the LX90 comes mounted on a fork mount and sold with the Audiostar computer. The optics of the Meade LX85 are identical to the LX90 and both have outstanding optics with superb views of planets, nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies. I will discuss all the features of the LX85, 8" SCT and the pros and cons of this telescope and give my impressions of it.

Telescope - Meade LX200 - what can you see with a 10" from Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey. Kent. UK. Also see "LX200 - Observatory" for more detail of how it works... All images by Peter Bruce Eastchurch Gap. This video sounded better with original Enya music but had to change due to copyright - shame. Images taken with Webcam, Cannon EOS, Starlight Xpress MX7C, Meade DSI 1 & DSI 3 & Astrovid camera's. I wish we could all "see" with our own eyes the pictures shown here but our eyes are not very sensitive at low light levels but what is importance is the fact you can see the sights with a modest set-up. And the night sky is God given and free to view - Best TV in the world...
