When it comes to adapting a classic TV show to the big screen, it doesn’t get much better than Andrew Davis’ The Fugitive. Indeed, the third highest-grossing film of 1993 proved to be a monumental critical and commercial hit that earned more than $370 million globally and was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In addition to Tommy Lee Jones winning an Oscar for his indelible supporting turn as U.S. Marshall Sam Gerard, the film still boasts some of the most impressive action set pieces and stunning practical FX on record. The movie succeeds on multiple levels as a riveting manhunt thriller, an engrossing murder mystery, a compelling redemption story, an FX-driven action-adventure, and of course, a faithful TV adaptation that both honors the spirit of the original and also pushes the narrative forward into daring, unpredictable territory. Yet, for as nearly perfect a film as The Fugitive remains to this day, you would never guess that the production actually had a slew of hurdles, injuries, cast and crew replacements, and other major mishaps to overcome. For instance, did you know that the original cinematographer was fired one week into the production? Or the fact that the movie’s villain, Dr. Charles Nichols, was actually played by a different actor before being replaced after falling ill due to a brain tumor? Or how about the on-set injuries Harrison Ford suffered while making the film on location in Chicago and North Carolina? Well, as the landmark action-packed crime drama celebrates its 30th anniversary this August, we’re about to dive into all of the little-known facts about the production and figure out just WTF Happened to The Fugitive! Crispin Glover is one strange dude, but that’s what we love about him. First bursting onto the scene playing Marty McFly’s nerdy father, George, in Back to the Future, Glover could have gone on to a perfectly serviceable career as an inoffensive character actor, but to say he had other ideas is putting things mildly. The very next year, 1986, featured Glover in two memorably eccentric supporting roles: opposite Sean Penn in At Close Range and the other opposite Keanu Reeves in the cult classic River’s Edge. In 1989, Glover did the impossible; he crossed Steven Spielberg when he refused to return for the Back to the Future sequels and even sued when they reused footage of him from the first film. Around the same time, Glover, in a move that was either brilliant or spectacularly ill-advised, went on Late Night with David Letterman and kicked the host in the head. It might have been performance art - or it might have been something else - but that, coupled with the lawsuit, made people think Glover was nuts. Yet, rather than hurt his career, it turned him into a cult icon, with him stealing scenes in Wild at Heart, The Doors, Dead Man, and many others. In 2000, he had his most prominent role since Back to the Future in Charlie’s Angels and its sequel. He even got to be a leading man in the horror remake of Willard. Since then, Glover’s somewhat retreated from the spotlight, directing his bizarre cult movies, making music, and typically only showing up in lower-key projects. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity, which is written (with Mathew Plale), edited, narrated and produced by Taylor James Johnson, we dig into the life of a true Hollywood original For more MOVIE NEWS, visit: 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more of all the LATEST JoBlo Videos here: 🤍 #CrispinGlover #BackToTheFuture #wtfhappenedtothiscelebrity
Hackers is a cult classic that takes us way back to that magical year of 1995. It was a simpler time, when kids had attention spans that lasted longer then a thirty second tik-tok video and people drove their cars while paying attention to the road and not with their heads down scrolling through instagram videos, a world before everything we could ever want or need to know was right in our pocket. For some of you, that world sounds like ancient times, but for those of us of a certain age, that world really wasn’t so long ago. Allow me to take you back to the year 1995 when a new-ish thing called the Internet was becoming more mainstream. It was a time when you would have to ask your parents to not use the phone for twenty minutes so you could get online followed by that annoying sound your computer made while it connected. But it was also the beginning of something, a new way of life that only a select few had embraced and it was time for Hollywood to take notice. It is time we update our passwords from Love, Sex, Secret and God and take a deep dive into one of the most quintessentially 90’s movies ever made and find out just What Happened to Hackers! Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand. Where does one even begin? It was Fox's first (but not last) attempt to film the Dark Phoenix saga, but it was rife with behind-the-scenes drama. Bryan Singer, who had made the first two X-Men movies, quit the series to go make Superman Returns, and the studio, in a spectacularly ill-advised decision, hired Brett Ratner to replace him. The result was a movie so spectacularly awful, the writer, Simon Kinberg, tried to make up for it by writing and directing his own take on Dark Phoenix, which somehow ended up just as bad! The one good thing about it? Kelsey Grammar is a pitch-perfect Beast. But, otherwise, whew - get ready to dig into one of the worst superhero movies ever made. The first three Final Destination movies undeniably stand as great contributions to the horror genre. Horror can take many forms, and it's high time we talked about something firmly in the psychological realm. Author Brett Easton Ellis is known to broach subjects that are uncomfortable or outright horrifying, but it is with the 3rd book that he went for the throat. Crafting a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY sounds like a fool’s errand. Being that it’s one of the most acclaimed films ever made, in order to be judged any kind of success the sequel would have to be some kind of masterpiece. 2010: THE YEAR WE MAKE CONTACT isn't a masterpiece, but it's pretty darn good. In 1984, director Peter Hyams, coming off the success of CAPRICORN ONE and some mid-level studio programmers (THE STAR CHAMBER, OUTLAND) decided to give it a go. He based it on author Arthur C. Clarke’s well-received sequel to the book the original 2001 was based on, and MGM, celebrating their “diamond jubilee” (60th anniversary) gave him a healthy $28 million budget. With star Roy Scheider coming off BLUE THUNDER, and co-star John Lithgow having recently had back-to-back Oscar nominations (for THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP and TERMS OF ENDEARMENT), it looked for a while like 2010 was going to be a solid hit, with Kubrick himself giving the film his (reserved) blessings. The Flash TV Show from 1990 was special for comic book fans. Growing up as a young comic book fan in the '80s and '90s was not easy. All you current comic fans have it so easy. I grew up in the dark times, my friends. We were glad when anything comic book related was on movies and TV. We were so desperate that we would make excuses for anything. Superman 3? Hey, he gets to fight an evil Superman! Generation X? Look they’re in the X-mansion! Howard the Duck? Yeah….I got nothing. But every once in a while someone would get it right. Richard Donner’s Superman started it but it was Tim Burton’s Batman film in 1989 that started to change things. Sure we would eventually get duds like Batman & Robin, but we also had Batman The Animated Series and Blade. Yet for a long time, there was one TV show that was mostly ignored for years. It wasn't until 28 years later that it was showered with love and truly appreciated for all it did to comic book media. I am of course talking about The Flash TV series from 1990. Yes, long before Grant Gustin raced into comic book fan's TV sets in 1994, there was another scarlet speedster who was the trailblazer for the speed force. So before we see yet another Flash break the sound barrier, let's talk about the original, and to me the best hero to wear the lightning bolt. In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten. In the seventies and early eighties, Walt Disney Productions were experimenting with adult fare, and Something Wicked This Way Comes ranks as one of the darkest movies the studio ever made, at least before opening Touchstone Pictures the year after this came out. Based on the novel by Ray Bradbury, this starred Jonathan Pryce as a carnival leader named Mr. Dark, who visits a small town in Illinois during the thirties and tempts the residence. It turns out, Mr. Dark just might be the Devil himself. In this episode of Fantasizing About Fantasy Films, we dig into the making of this cult classic. It's time for our Fast X Movie Review! Fast X is meant to be either the first of a two-part finale or the beginning of a series-ending trilogy. The original plan was for two movies, but according to Diesel and much of the cast, there might still be more fuel in the tank for this long-lasting series. Having seen Fast X, the two-movie plan makes sense, but a trilogy feels like a bridge too far as, while fun, Fast X is too thinly plotted to serve as the first film in a trilogy. While no one can doubt this is an action-packed thrill ride which, thankfully, improves on the mostly disliked F9, like most films that are set up as the first half of a longer story, it's never fully satisfying in the way some of the better instalments of the series are as we'll explain in our Fast X Review For more MOVIE NEWS, visit: 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more of all the LATEST JoBlo Videos here: 🤍 #FastX #VinDiesel

When it premiered in 2006, Tim Kring’s Heroes was raved about and considered the next great piece of episodic genre TV. Many thought it would be the next Lost, and Hayden Panettiere became a star overnight. But, as soon as season 2 started, the show seemingly jumped the shark, and what began as a promising superhero epic became just another TV soap opera. What happened? Part of it had to do with the fact that Bryan Fuller, who consulted on Season One, left before the second season, while the second season also coincided with the WGA Writer’s Strike, which spelled the doom for many shows. While Heroes would continue for another few seasons, viewership died off, and many felt that the show never lived up to the considerable promise of the first season. In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, which is written, produced and edited by David Arroyo and narrated by Jesse Shade, we dig into how this epic fantasy about ordinary people imbued with superhero abilities initially captured the public’s imagination. While the series would eventually end with a whimper rather than a bang, it also made Zachary Quinto, who played the show’s scene-stealing villain Sylar, a star paving the way for him to play Spock in the new J.J. Abrams series of Star Trek movies. Hayden Panettiere would become a major star, while Milo Ventimiglia would eventually land a long run on NBC’s This is Us. Masi Oka would also become a cult icon. Still, there was a bad side to the show too, with news coming out years later about how star Leonard Roberts was written out due to conflicts with co-star Ali Larter. At the same time, behind-the-scenes changes made the quality of the show decline season-to-season, ruining what should have been an excellent TV franchise. Do you have fond memories of Heroes? A few weeks ago, Netflix announced that it would be making a TV adaptation of A. J. Quinnell’s Man on Fire, a novel which was famously turned into perhaps one of the definitive Denzel Washington movies, one which is also considered the late Tony Scott’s masterpiece. So what gives? Why improve on perfection? Could there possibly be a John Creasy that would be seen as an improvement on Denzel’s towering performance? But, did you know that this movie wasn’t actually the first adaptation of Quinnell’s novel, and that, in fact, John Creasy’s adventures continued on in book form despite his tragic end in Scott’s movie? After-school cartoons were never cooler than they were in the nineties. Batman: The Animated Series set the tone for how a cartoon could aim higher than just being kiddie fare. Flashback to the holiday season of 2001. After years of filming, the first film in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, is due to hit theaters, and expectations are sky high. With all three films already shot and in the process of being completed, everything is riding on the first movie being a success because if it flops, New Line has got two more pricey movies they still have to finish (they were in a similar position to Disney with the Avatar films). But not only is The Fellowship of the Rings a smash hit but critics and audiences alike hail the film as a new classic. Overnight, Peter Jackson becomes one of the biggest directors in the business, and the Fellowship’s cast, which includes Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, and a then-unknown Orlando Bloom, become icons overnight. Of course, it was only the beginning, with The Two Towers and The Return of the King just as popular, climaxing with the final film in the trilogy winning Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars. In this episode of What You Need to Know About this Franchise, we dig into the long process of making Peter Jackson’s iconic trilogy while also exploring the key differences between the theatrical and extended cuts, which many fans believe are the definitive versions of the films. This episode of What You Need to Know About This Franchise is written, edited and narrated by Kier Gomes, and produced by Tyler Nichols. Stay tuned for a follow-up covering The Hobbit and the new Lord of the Rings TV show (The Rings of Power) shortly. After years of waiting, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally here! I’m of the firm belief that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the definitive Spider-Man movie. I still remember going to see the first film and thinking that it would just be some disposable kids movie, only to discover that producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were, in fact, reinventing the superhero movie in animated form. In that film I saw things that I never thought I’d see in a superhero film, and I also believe it’s mingling of the Spider-verses paved the way for the best live-action Spider-Man movie, No Way Home. But how would a sequel fare? I’ve been seeing bits and pieces of this movie for years, with Sony showing us extended looks at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse at the various CinemaCon’s I attended, and even with rough animation, it looked pretty spectacular. But, how is the finished film? Beyond anything I could have hoped for. And our hero, the go-to man to save the night, is Tom Atkins! It was the 80s, and the film is a sort of love letter to alien invasion films of the 1950s as well as an update on the genre with a bit of a nod to Cronenberg's Shiver. So many of these "WTF happened to" videos focus on a film that had behind the scenes issues or were catastrophic bombs in theaters and we dissect what went wrong, but every so often we here at Joblo like to examine what went right with a movie. In 2019, a movie seemingly came out of nowhere to become a cultural milestone that not only sparked controversy but also broke records. Sit back and put on a happy face as we figure out just WTF Happened to Todd Phillips' Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix in his Oscar-winning role! Joker was a film that no one seemed to want when it was announced, yet two creative forces, completely separate of each other, desired to make a low budget film set in the world of comic books that really took a deep dive into the character. In a world where comic book movies based in continuing universes seem to be starting to grow stale, Warner Brothers along with Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix took a huge risk in presenting a different vision to the world. The results would be one of the biggest films ever made. For more MOVIE NEWS, visit: 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more of all the LATEST JoBlo Videos here: 🤍 #Joker #joaquinphoenix #wtfhappenedtothismovie
Once upon a time, we here at Joblo launched a new series aimed at digging into what happened to celebrities that were once on the A-list only to see their star power diminish over the years. Our goal was to shine a light on the people that make us say “I haven’t seen them in a while, I wonder WTF happened to them?” But a lot can happen in three years, one second you are the subject of the pilot episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity and the next you are an Academy Award Winning actor such as the case with Brendan Fraser! But as always we must begin at the beginning and for us that beginning began on September 19, 2019 when we posted our very first WTF Happened to This Celebrity video. We wanted to start off with a bang, focusing on a celebrity that seemed to be universally loved but had fallen out of the limelight in recent years, and there was no one more perfect than Brendan Fraser for our pilot episode. But when launching into the research for Fraser, I wasn’t expecting the darkness his personal life had endured that took a toll on his professional life. By the end of the video, I wanted nothing more than for Fraser to have the comeback he so deserved. So as we start looking back at some of our previous WTFers, its time we ask the age old question: WTF happened to Brendan Fraser... you know, since the last time we asked WTF Happened to Brendan Fraser! Part Two! Check out Part 1 here: 🤍 For more MOVIE NEWS, visit: 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more of all the LATEST JoBlo Videos here: 🤍 #brendanfraser #wtfhappenedtothiscelebrity
One of the biggest action franchises of the last twenty-five years had humble beginnings. It started with a simple little movie about street racing, based on a magazine article, with a cast of young people who weren’t very well-known and action scenes that are relatively grounded. That movie has somehow spawned multiple sequels and a spin-off. Along the way, those further installments have gotten bigger, crazier, and more over-the-top. While earning over six billion dollars at the worldwide box office. The movie we’re talking about is the 2001 release THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS starring a young Vin Diesel and Paul Walker– and it’s time for it to be REVISITED. When THE BLOB first appeared in 1958, the creature was presented in very simple ways. It was just some silicone that had been dyed red. For some shots, it was a balloon that had red silicone smeared on it. But when THE BLOB was remade in 1988, the creature got a substantial upgrade. The special effects artists working on the remake were able to make the Blob even more dangerous and frightening. And that helped the film become one of the most popular remakes ever made. So let’s look back at the making of THE BLOB ‘88 and find out WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?
