🧳 TABIEATS: 🤍 🎥 WATCH: Tokyo Ramen Tour 🤍 👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH: 🤍 I have loved eating food from all over the world ever since I was a kid, so when I got the chance to visit Japan in January of 2019, I knew I would have an incredible time diving into all of the unique dishes this amazing country has to offer. I started my Japanese adventure in Tokyo and explored several other cities and areas around the island of Honshu on an unforgettable, 12-day excursion. Come with me as I explore the gorgeous island nation of Japan! I love Asian sweets. They’re so different from Western sweets, and Japan has some of the most unique ones on the planet. My friend Shinichi from TabiEats was kind enough to take me on a phenomenal street food tour in Asakusa, Tokyo, where we explored the sugary world of Japanese sweets in the culinary capital of the world! The Asakusa area of Tokyo is known for its beautiful temples and delectable street food, so I knew I’d have a blast there! We started on the longest and oldest shopping street in Tokyo, Nakamise Dori, where you can find the oldest temple in the city, Sensoji Temple, as well as lots of shops. There’s a lot of history there! At our first shop, Azuma, Shinichi and I tried kibi dango, which is a traditional Japanese sweet that consists of mochi balls covered in millet flour on a stick! It was gooey and was almost exactly like mochi, but with nothing inside it, and covered in a nutty flour that tastes similar to peanut butter. I loved it! Then I also tried a fantastic, hot, fermented rice drink called amazake. It was very rice-y and kind of slimy, but amazing! I’m glad I got to try it; it’s only available in the winter. Next, I tried ichigo daifuku, a type of mochi that is stuffed with red bean paste and a fresh strawberry. We got two different varieties: one with red bean paste and one with custard. The one with the red bean paste was incredibly juicy and fresh, as it was strawberry season in Japan. One of my favorite mochis of all-time! Next was the custard ichigo daifuku, which was very different. I didn’t love it at first, but then the custard inside blew me away! Up next were freshly deep-fried rice crackers. They were hot, crunchy, and salty, and had a flavor almost like popcorn. I didn’t love them, but they were still pretty tasty. We followed that with Japanese pancakes called ningyoyaki that date back to the Edo period. They come in shapes like pagodas and birds and contained red bean paste, which is standard for most traditional Japanese sweets. It was almost all gooey red bean paste with the savory pancake around it and is so good! Six cost 550 Yen, or roughly $4.97 U.S. After visiting a mask shop with a cool selection, we moved on to menchi katsu, which is a deep-fried patty made of beef, pork, and onion. It was very moist and juicy and had a great mix of flavors and a nice, flaky crunch on the outside. It was amazing! Afterward, I met an owl from an owl café and grabbed another coffee from a vending machine, before grabbing two savory, deep-fried pancakes called monja: a regular one and a curry one. Both were hot and moist, with lots of herbs, but the curry one had a crunchy, delicious curry on the outside. I loved it! After passing through the second gate of the temple and warming my hands by a massive incense burner, we prepared to enter the temple by rinsing out hands and mouths in the water of the nearby fountain. Inside, I prayed, made a wish, and bowed. Afterward, you can get your fortune, but mine was bad, so Shinichi showed me what to do with fortunes you don’t like and want to change! We finished our sweets tour with some melon pan, which is a Japanese sweet bread with matcha (a type of green tea) soft serve ice cream inside! The bread was amazing, like a biscuit with a little sugar on top, and an icy dose of intense matcha flavor in the middle. My number one dish of the day, even though it gave me brain freeze! Wow, what a fantastic sweets tour! I hope you liked watching me and Shinichi sampling some of the best Japanese sweets in Tokyo! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. And please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. One of best attractions of Asakusa is Nakamise, the shopping street which connects the main gate of Sensoji Temple, Kaminarimon Gate, and the main hall. The 250 m approach is lined with numbers of souvenir shops and food stalls and it’s a great spot to try traditional Tokyo’s street food. Visitors enjoy “Tabearuki” (means ‘walk-and-eat’ in Japanese) at Nakamise Shopping Street. In this article, I’d like to introduce must-try street food and snacks on Nakamise Shopping Street!

Today we'll be exploring Asakusa again, but this time we'll be mostly eating at more hidden spots and at places outside of the Sensoji Temple/Nakamise Shopping Street area. There are tons of street food in Asakusa and if you take the time and explore the area you'll quickly find out that there are even more options to choose from and things to do here! The first spot that we'll be heading too is Real Italian Gelato, yes that's what it's really called! This place has some fantastic and unique flavors and definitely is a must try! The gelato and sorbet here are really flavorful and if I had the chance I would of tried all of their flavors in a heartbeat! If you didn't know Asakusa has one of the oldest temples in Japan and has many traditional snacks and eats especially at Nakamise Shopping Street. In a previous video I ate at many of the street vendors, but there were still many more that I didn't get to try. The first one that I'll be visiting is called Kibi Dango Azuma, which sells amazake and kibi dango. Amazake is a sweetened fermented rice drink and was perfect for this cold chilly day. Note amazake may contain low amounts of alcohol. Kibi Dango is similar to mochi and is a sweetened chewy rice flour ball that is covered with soybean flour. Both of them pair nicely together. Also located at Nakamise Shopping Street is Ichibanya Senbei which sells roasted rice crackers. I would recommend you not trying the no. 2 on their menu which was too salty for my taste. The rice cracker itself was good, however the soy sauce blend was so overpowering that I wasn't able to enjoy it. Near this area is a place called Kaede which specializes in dango, which is similar to mochi. I've had dangos in the U.S. from a few japanese supermarkets, however I never really enjoyed it until I had it here in Japan! The little balls were so bouncy, slightly chewy, and also had a slightly sweet flavor. Both the Mitarashi Dango and Hanami dango were very good here! To the left of Sensoji Temple, there is a hidden alleyway that lead toward Kagetsudo which is a bakery that specializes in melon bread and they also have a awesome variety of soft serve and shaved ice. These giant melon breads were simply amazing and also very affordable. I ended up getting the melon bread filled with matcha soft serve and it was delicious! The line may look long here, but it goes by really fast and the staff was really nice. Towards the end of my video there happened to be a food fair that had many local products and food from Fukushima Prefecture and Adachi District. This was a special event and is not regularly held here in Asakusa. Pretty much anything I ate at this food fair was simply amazing, they really brought their local specialties and made me want to visit Fukushima in the future. You can serach "Asakusa Events" and a event calendar should pop up. The last place that I visited is called Suzukien which is located behind the Sensoji Temple. Suzukien is a must go for any tea & ice cream lovers! They are famous for their 7 levels of matcha ice cream and it is FANTASTIC. The gelato was creamy, fragrant, and flavorful. This was the best matcha ice cream that I have ever had and I definitely recommend you visiting here! View more Asakusa Food through the video links below! See Internationally ME 's Video here: 🤍 See TabiEats Video here: 🤍 The links to things that I mentioned are down below! - Asakusa Tori Yoshi One of the first places I have ever loved since I arrived in Tokyo 3-4 years ago. I love the fact that the restaurant actually opens early and closes late. Almost 24 hours, but then again its not. XD Link: 🤍 - Asakusa Menchi Very noticeable spot in Dempo-in Street once you take that sharp left. People always line here no matter what day, or time it is! Definitely give it a go. Link: 🤍 - Kagetsudo Best Melon Pans in Tokyo! It moved places few years ago but it is still relatively near Sensoji Temple. They have the best melon pans for a somewhat affordable price. Don't forget to get the Ice Cream Melon Pan during the summer! It is AMAZING Link: 🤍 - Gyuukatsu Pretty famous with the Korean and Chinese travellers for some reason. People maybe posted blogs and such? But the reason as to why is pretty obvious. It is probably the best Katsu place in Asakusa hands down.. For relatively cheap as well considering what it actually offers! Link: 🤍 - Asakusa Silk Pudding Hidden from the limelight that is Asakusa, this place actually sits on an almost-empty street. You would not notice this spot exists unless you actually search it on google. Tourists who discover this gem of a store love to either try to Asakusa Premium Pudding, or the Macha pudding, which is unusual to begin with. Link: 🤍 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL! 24 hours in Asakusa, Tokyo 2022 - Culture/Street food - Travel Tips and Hacks In today's video we're spending 24 hours in Tokyo (Asakusa). You'll experience many levels of Japanese culture in 2022- beautiful yukatas, kimonos, delicious Japanese cuisine, and some of the most famous sites sites in Tokyo. Join me on a day trip into Asakusa. Asakusa is arguably the cultural center of Tokyo. It is one of the most popular Tokyo tourist attractions. Come with me as we travel from the outskirts of Tokyo into the heart of one of the biggest cities in the world. We'll start by taking a local and showing you how to get on and off with your Pasmo card. You'll see how to use the train in Tokyo. We then purchase a one-day train pass at the train station (this is a great option because you can save a lot of money). We change trains a couple of times and show a few hacks to make your train experience a little easier. After getting off the train, we'll do LOTS of walking around Asakusa - the cultural epicenter of Tokyo. There are so many things to do in Asakusa. With all the restaurants, you'll have no problem with street food hunting. We'll visit the largest Japanese traditional temple in Tokyo - Sensoji Temple. Along the streets you'll see lots of stores and so many cute Japanese girls. As always, I try to provide information and tips you can use when visiting Japan. As more videos are uploaded, I'll elaborate more on these tips so when you visit, you'll be able to navigate and do Japan like a pro. Remember, if you ever have questions, please post them in the comments. I do my best to answer every question. Subscribe for more food and travel videos: 🤍 Chasing a Plate is in Tokyo Japan! Today we explore Asakusa. Asakusa is famous for it's Sensojii Temple as well as being one of the most traditional districts in Tokyo. Kinamarimon Gate is the entrance to Sensojii Temple and Nakamise-dori the street that leads to Sensojii Temple is lined with street food stalls and shops selling souvenirs and trinkets. We sample some Asakusa street food on Nakamise Street including age manju- a sweet deep fried bun filled with sweet red bean, ningyo-yaki a sponge caked filled with red bean and our favourite snack of the day a sweet bread called melon pan which is filled with matcha ice cream. If you're into desserts, Asakusa is the place to visit to try lots of different Japanese sweets. We have a wander around the temple and get our fortune told before heading back into Shinjuku. We stop at Sukiya, a restaurant chain that specialises in 'bowls' and eat a ginger pork bowl and a beef bowl. Cheap, filling and tasty! We hope we've inspired you to eat and explore like a traveler, not a tourist. In this video we visited the oldest temple in Tokyo, Sensō-ji temple. Sensō-ji temple is located in the Asakusa area of Tokyo. It is a huge complex and it's surrounded by souvenir shops and lots of street food stalls. We went on one of the busiest days of the year, due to the New Year celebration, on December 30th. After enjoying the temple we enjoyed many Japanese foods that I got to check off the list. Foods such as Yakisoba and Yakitori! If you enjoyed this video please subscribe and tell me what you think about the amazing day we had at Asakusa. Come join us for a Japanese Street Food Tour in Asakusa (浅草) area of Tokyo, Japan as we sample numerous sweet and savory items. We've thoroughly enjoyed sampling Tokyo Street Food on this particular trip and visiting Asakusa (浅草) felt like the most touristy experience out of all the places we've sampled street food in the city. What brings in the crowds is the impressive Senso-ji Temple (金龍山浅草寺), Five Story Pagoda and Kanimarinom Gate (雷門). Aside from just street food, as you wander down Nakamise street, you'll also find plenty of souvenirs and clothes you can purchase. Here is a list of all of the Japanese Street Food we sampled on our little tour of Asakusa (浅草): 1) Ningyo Yaki (人形焼) - 3 for 150 Yen 'Baked Dolls' small cakes filled with sweet anko bean paste 2) Kibi Dango (きびだんご) - 5 skewers for 330 Yen Millet dumpling made from kibi flour 3) Japanese Green Tea - 1 cup is 110 Yen Light and refreshing cold green tea 4) Spicy skewers - 1 skewer 100 Yen Skewers with a spicy coating on top 5) Cheese and sweet potato pie - 1 for 350 Yen A flaky pie with sugary sweet potato pie filling and salty cheese 6) Melonpan (メロンパン) and Ice cream - 1 for 400 Yen A melon shaped bread with vanilla ice cream inside 7) Fried curry bun - 200 Yen A deep-fried bun with curry stuffed inside Location of Asakusa and specifically Senso-ji Temple: Address: 2 Chome-3-1 Asakusa, Taitō, Tokyo 111-0032, Japan GEAR WE USE Panasonic GH5: 🤍 Canon G7X ii: 🤍 Rode Video Micro: 🤍 Joby Gorilla Pod: 🤍 SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro: 🤍 SOCIAL MEDIA & TRAVEL BLOGS AUDREY: blog: 🤍 instagram: 🤍 facebook: 🤍 twitter: 🤍 SAMUEL: blog: 🤍 facebook: 🤍 twitter: 🤍 instagram: 🤍 Japanese Street Food Tour in Asakusa (浅草) | Tokyo, Japan Travel Video Transcript: Good afternoon. It is time for another street food video here in Tokyo, Japan. And today we have come to Asakusa (浅草). I believe that is how it is pronounced. In Japanese it is known as Asakusa (浅草) to foreigners. That is a lot easier to say. Um but yeah we've come here it is packed. There are so many tourists because this is the sight of Sensoji Temple (金龍山浅草寺). So yeah we're just going to be walking down this one street that leads all the way to the temple. There is lots of street food in the area. We have come hungry yes so let's do this. That is our primary goal. To eat all of the street food. So this is the plan of action. We arrived as Asakusa (浅草) station. We walked over to Kanimarinom Gate (雷門). We're going to be following the street Nakamise all the way to Senso-ji Temple (金龍山浅草寺) and the Five Story Pagoda. And along the way it is going to be all about the food. I have to say I'm very excited to have found this. We tried to eat this in Osaka. Melonpan. Do you remember that? Yes, we went there on a rainy day yeah and the food truck that serves melon pan was closed for the day. What a sad occasion. Then we went to a different market where we had melonpan but without the ice cream. It was just the bread. This is the real deal. So we got the real deal. If I open it here it is so big. We got like a square of ice cream. It almost looks like butter. Alright guys so here we are. We have reached the end of shopping street and that concludes our food tour. We've also reached the temple at long last. I think we probably spent about an hour or hour and a half here. Yeah. I think it is just like 250 meters but we meandered. We sampled food. We were eating and following our noses. It was a really tasty Japanese Street Food Tour so we hope you guys enjoyed it. It has gotten like really windy. So I think it is going to start raining any minute. So we're going to say goodbye and we'll see you soon with more food and travel videos here on our channel. Bye. This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese cuisine. Music by Artlist: 🤍
